ISOLATION ENHANCEMENT

PACKAGE ( IEP )

Shown with optional wall window ( 26" x 36" ), SDS and Caster Plate

Some applications may require a much greater level of noise reduction than what is offered by a Standard "S" WhisperRoom. To accommodate this, Standard units have been pre-configured to allow for the installation of a full set of secondary isolation components. These secondary component packages are referred to as Isolation Enhancement Packages (IEP). A Standard model with an IEP is referred to as an Enhanced "E" model.

EXAMPLE:  MDL 4242S + IEP 4242 = MDL 4242E

Click here to see a STANDARD to ENHANCED comparison diagram.

An IEP is available for each Standard model and can be installed at any time. If desired, a unit can be purchased as a Standard model and later upgraded to an Enhanced model by adding the appropriate IEP.  Each IEP package consist of secondary floor, ceiling, door, doorjamb and wall systems. An Enhanced WhisperRoom is effectively two isolation enclosures in one.

IEP CONSTRUCTION

As with Standard WhisperRoom components, the barrier portion of IEP wall, ceiling and door components is constructed of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), completely wrapped with a durable 1/8 inch thick, cloth type material. The barrier weight is 3.25 pounds per square foot (Lbs/sqft).

NOTE:  MDF is a premium manufactured wood product designed to exhibit a high level of consistency and mass throughout and should not be confused with lower grade, less consistent products such as

oriented strand board (OSB), particle board or wafer board.

The WALLS of an Enhanced unit consists of two layers of barrier and are 5 1/4 inches thick: 1" thick barrier, 1 1/4" thick air/foam, 1" thick barrier, and 2" thick acoustical foam. The weight is 6.5 Lbs/sqft (3.25 Lbs/sqft Standard wall and 3.25 Lbs/sqft IEP wall). The Standard and IEP wall structures are separated from one another with rubber vibration isolator pads. These pads provide an air buffer and minimize rigid contact between the two wall systems.

The CEILING of an Enhanced unit consists of two layers of barrier and is 3 inches thick: 2" thick Standard ceiling (1" barrier and 1" of preattached acoustical foam) and 1" thick IEP ceiling barrier. The weight is 6.75 Lbs/sqft (3.5 Lbs/sqft Standard ceiling and 3.25 Lbs/sqft IEP ceiling).

The FLOOR of an Enhanced unit consists of two layers of barrier and is 1 5/16 inches thick: 1" thick Standard floor barrier and a 5/16" thick IEP floor which consists of a layer of DURACOUSTIC Sound Control Underlayment. This underlayment is made of reinforced rubber (recycled) matting with an open cell structure designed to enhance its sound deadening properties. The total weight of an enhanced floor is 3.85 Lbs/sqft (3.25 Lbs/sqft Standard floor and .6 Lb/sqft IEP floor). NOTE: An additional 1" thick, 3.25 Lbs/sqft of barrier can be added by the installation of the optional Caster Plate. This would equate to 2 5/16" overall thickness and 7.1 Lbs/sqft of barrier.

The DOOR of an Enhanced unit consists of two layers of barrier and is 3 inches thick: 2" thick Standard door (1" barrier and 1" of preattached acoustical foam) and 1" thick IEP door barrier. The weight is 6.75 Lbs/sqft (3.5 Lbs/sqft Standard door and 3.25 Lbs/sqft IEP door). The Standard and IEP doors are separated from one another with rubber washers. These washers provide an air buffer and minimize rigid contact between the two doors.

The WINDOWS of an Enhanced unit consists of four panes of laminated safety glass and are 3 1/8 inches thick: 3/4" thick (1/4" glass / 1/4" air / 1/4" glass) Standard window unit and 3/4" thick (1/4" glass / 1/4" air / 1/4" glass) IEP window unit separated by a 1 5/8" air buffer. The weight is 10 Lbs/sqft (5 Lbs/sqft Standard window unit and 5 Lbs/sqft IEP window unit). There is no rigid contact between the Standard and IEP window units. This minimizes noise transfer.

NOTE: See specifications chart for metric values.

IEP INSTALLATION

Standard WhisperRooms are designed so that the appropriate IEP can be easily and quickly installed using existing hardware. In fact, all components, except the IEP floor, can be installed after the standard unit has been fully assembled. As with standard floors and optional caster plates, IEP floor components must be installed prior to the installation of wall and ceiling components. In certain situations where the level of noise reduction required is unclear, some customers choose to purchase and install the IEP floor with a Standard WhisperRoom unit. This prevents the need for disassembly/reassembly of the Standard unit to install the full IEP at a later date.

IEP floor and ceiling components mount to the exterior of the standard unit and increase the overall height by approximately 1 3/8 inches. IEP wall system components are positioned on the interior of Standard wall system components. Once installed, the overall interior dimensions are reduced by 2 1/4 inches (1" barrier / 1 1/4" air buffer) in each direction. Interior dimensions are reduced by 4 1/2 inches in width and depth.
